Language Classes at Ryerson: Placement tests and other info

Any student that wishes to take a language class at Ryerson for the first time, must take a placement test.

The test can be found here:

It is marked by a person, not a computer so it can take up to 48 hours to receive a response due to the high volume.  It is not pass or fail, rather an assessment of the language skills the student already has learned. They will be placed in a level that suits their abilities.  The classes that start at 101 are for true beginners that have never been exposed to the language.  Once the students have the email with their results, then they can enroll in the class based on their results. They are not allowed to enroll in classes lower than the test results as it is considered academic misconduct according to Policy 60.

We have seen an increase in students trying to add themselves to lower level classes after they have completed higher level classes.  RAMSS isn’t built to block them.

If you have questions on which classes to take or how to complete a Minor, please contact me or refer to the pathways on our website:

Any student that went to class last week and/or this week will be reassessed in class to ensure the students are in the correct level. If you have any questions, please contact me. I would be happy to help.
